"can you guess me style...?"
Ok, as i said before i have a wide range of musical loves, old school rap being pretty high on the list of favorites, but what about new school hip hip you ask. Well i actually think that most of the new shit is garbage but there are a few that shine through (most being the independent/underground stuff.) I know that the biggest argument from cats that like the new stuff is to quit living in the past but hey, those old school crews where hungry and they had to try that much harder to make a dent. Plus i just think that quality of the rhymes where better, i mean the MC's back in the day could cut a brother up with one rhyme. But, i didn't write this to start a new school vs. old school battle because that’s just a waste of time.
What i came here to do is just to let you all know that i buy a lot of CD's (Streetlight Records buy 3 and get the 4 one free in the clearance section) and from time to time i need to just write to you all and tell you what i bought, and hopeful you can read this and it can help you find new things to listen to.
So the newest CD i bought was from the faceless member of one of the all time greatest hip hop clans...GHOSTFACE, the album "the Pretty Toney album." so, how was the album...i liked it, i liked it a lot. I think out of al of the Wu members (besides Rza) Ghostface is the hardest working member of the Wu. What, you say "what about Method man?" ok, i love Method but i just couldn’t get with his last album, the first one was of the chain but he fell off, to many movies and TV shows i guess. But back to "the Pretty Toney album" the first part of the album, while good, just doesn’t compare to the second part of the album. It seem that Ghost, at the beginning, is playing it safe until "Last Night (skit)" after that skit the album blows up. Track 10, “Tush feat. Missy Elliot”, is a good track but it seems that the beat is trying to hard to sound like a Timberland beat, as if Missy can't rap over anything else (we know that’s not true.) so what are the stand out tracks on the album?? Track 7, "Save Me Dear”, great track with an old school soul feel to it. Ghost is at his greatest when he brings the classic soul to the people. Track 10, "Tush feat. Missy" ok, I’m not gonna lie, i love me some Missy. With every track she brings the fire. Track 12, "Holla" more classic soul goodness. Track 13, "Ghostface" a simple track but it's always a treat to listen to a dope MC's kill the mic. Track 14, "Be This Way" I don't know what to say about this track, its just dope, beat, rhymes...its got it all. Track 16, "Tooken Back feat. Jackie-O" ok, Ghost loves the ladies, his track with Mary J. was off the chain. Now this track is no where near that one but its still a great listen and i love Jackie-O's flow (a little Eve'ish but good.) Track 17, "Run feat. Jadakiss" ok, the track that kills the album, and i hope during every review to give you one track that kills the whole album because i believe that on every album there is at least one good track. Now Run, is a dope track first radio single and it's the stand out track. I mean it's the one that i keep listening to. The beat is Rza, and flows are fire, Jadakiss's flow is tight. Dope track.
Now not every review will be this long, but for my first one i just figured I’d do a little more. Plus, every time i go CD shopping i buy at least 2 disc and it would take to long to write about them all so i think it will be much shorter next time. So i hoped u liked and i love comments and if you disagree please post i love other options.
